Tips for Managing Frizzy Hair

Frizzy hair can be the bane of the fashion conscious diva’s life and John Frieda International Creative Consultant Harry Josh recently offered some advice about how to tame those unruly tresses.

A good blow dry is the key to keeping frizzy hair tamed for a longer time. The 15-minute blow dry will probably not be much good because it will not give you that frizz free look for too long.

Either you invest time (as much as 45 minutes, say Josh) or you invest money (by getting your hair done in a salon) to get that sleek and frizz free look for 3 days.

Other tips that the stylist offers are that women need to be careful about washing their face.

The hairline and the nape of the neck should be protected from moisture, so be careful when you wash your face, take a shower or have a bath.

Rather than splashing water, use a washclothand wear a shower cap to prevent the hair getting damp.

Additional tips for taming the frizz

Protect hair from sun damage by using protective headgear. The sun’s rays strip away moisture from the hair, making it dry, brittle and frizzy.

Keep hair tangle free. Use a wide toothed comb for the hair rather than a brush. This will get rid of tangles gently without pulling and tugging of the hair from the roots or stretching the hair strand.

When shampoo your hair, wash and condition in the correct way: shampoo should be applied to the scalp to clean the debris and oil that collect there, whereas conditioner should be applied to the hair strand – particularly the ends and not the roots.

Shampooing the tips of the hair could actually exacerbate the frizz because it could dry out hair and make it brittle. And when you apply the conditioner leave it in for at least 15 minutes so that it has time to soften and smoothen your hair optimally.

Use hot oil for the hair and the scalp before shampooing to help soothe the frizz and to smoothen the cuticle of the hair. This will also naturally condition hair and keep it soft and smooth.

Drink plenty of water and eat a healthy diet plenty of natural nutrients that will be good not only for your hair but also your skin and your overall health.
