How to Prevent and Get Rid of Ingrown Hairs?

When shaving, the last thing that people want is ingrown hair in the area that is supposed to be smooth. The good news is that you can avoid this situation if you take your time when shaving and if you use a proper shaving technique. The products that you use have a word to say in the matter too.

Speed is not a good idea

Ingrown-HairsBefore you start shaving you should take the time to prepare the area that you will shave. In case you are shaving under the shower or in the tub, you should allow the area to soak for at least 5 minutes before shaving. If you shave sensitive areas, you should use a wet and warm towel to prepare the skin.

Shaving gel

The main point of the shaving gel is to protect the skin and to make it possible for the razor to glide smoothly on the surface of the skin. It is best to choose a gel especially created for sensitive skin. There are also some gels that are made to prevent bumps.

The right razor

When shaving, it is best to use a single blade razor. Although the multi blade razors seem to be more efficient, they irritate the skin more than the single blade razors. In case of the multi blade razors the first blade pulls the hair and the rest cut it. As a result the tip of the hair is beneath the skin, increasing the risks of having ingrown hair.

The disposable razors are less expensive on the short run than the razors that come with changeable blades. If you are considering long term, it is good to know that the razors with changeable blades seem to be more cost efficient on long term.

Proper shaving

When shaving, you should go over the surface of the skin only once. This is because if you pass over the skin several times, you are more likely to have a razor burn or razor bumps. This is because with each pass you irritate the skin even more. To have an even shave, you should rinse the blade after each pass.

Soothe the skin

After shaving you ought to relax a bit in cool water or apply a wet, cool towel over the shaved area. This way you can reduce the irritation and so you will have less ingrown hair as a result of the shaving technique that you use.
