In the world there are numerous women who have to deal with dry skin conditions but the truth is that a lot of them don’t really know what this means or how to treat it. Before you start any kind of treatment, you should gather as much information as possible.
What are dry skin conditions?
Actually having dry skin isn’t a condition, not in the negative meaning of the word, so it isn’t an illness. It is the condition of the skin that involves the skin being scaly, red and itchy. In case of having dry skin it is also possible to experience eczema.
In the majority of the cases the conditions of dry skin are worse during the fall and winter and you can experience the problems on your face, arms, hands and legs. Even if in youth you didn’t have dry skin, you might have it when you get older.
What makes the skin dry?
You may know that the conditions of dry skinare related to the glands of the skin that are producing the oil that is able to hold the moisture. As people get older the number of these glands gets reduced.
The amount of fat that the outer layer of the skin has influences directly the conditions of dry skin, the ability to retain water and also the ability to protect the body.
Just as any other aspect of life, genes also have a word to say in the dryness of the skin. If you have some relatives that are also suffering from such conditions, it is very likely that you will as well. In extreme cases, as one of the dry skin conditions you could have ichthyosis, meaning fish-scaling.
The dryness of the skin can be influenced by your surroundings and your habits, such as use of soap, dry and warm climate, too much sunbathing and other environmental circumstances.
How to prevent conditions of dry skin
Hot water could dry the skin, and this is why it might be better to shower with lukewarm water, and there is no reason for you to shower more than once a day. Make sure that you don’t use too much soap. Even in case you would like to use some kind of soap, opt for a mild soap that has a skin friendly pH value to avoid dry skin conditions.
When you are finished washing, you shouldn’t rub the skin. You should rather dab it. Once you are done with bathing or showering, you should apply a moisturizer while the skin is still damp.
The heat in your home could also dry the skin, and this is why you should make sure that your home isn’t too warm, and you could also invest in a humidifier to avoid conditions of dry skin.
You shouldn’t be sunbathing too long. Too much sun exposure can do a lot of damage, because the sun rays could cause wrinkles, dry skin and even skin cancer, among other dry skin conditions. This is why it is better to have sunscreen when exposed to sunrays.
