There is one view that some skin care myths are perpetuated by companies that makeskin care products as a marketing ploy to keep you buying more and more of their products. So here are some skin care myths busted –
- Products containing collagen fight wrinkles and firm up the skin. This is a myth, because for collagen to be of any use, it has to penetrate the skin and since collagen molecules are so big, they are unable to penetrate the skin. So products with collagen and also elastin and hyaluronic acid will stay on the surface of the skin, giving little or no benefit.
- You need separate eye cream. This is also a myth – though the skin around the eyes is thinner, it doesn’t need a separate product for the area. The ingredients are much the same as regular cream, only the jars are smaller and the prices higher! (Makeup Online)
- Drink lots of water for good skin hydration. A myth because how much water your skin can retain is not dependent upon how much water you drink. It is in fact a protective skin barrier that keeps it hydrated and when this barrier is damaged the moisture is lost.
- Cellulite, stretch marks and wrinkles can be eliminated with creams, lotions and gels. Alas this is a myth as well.
