Yes, for that matter any one can develop skin boils.
Our immune system is the defense mechanism to fight against the infections, illnesses, ailments and diseases.
If this immune system is weakened it is more likely that we are more susceptible to the above mentioned disorders.
Diseases and disorders such as diabetes, kidney failure and hypogammaglobulinemia are the reasons for the immune system to become weak. It is well understood that immune system deficiencies lead to skin boils or some other skin disorders.
Let’s see what are these skin boils and how are they formed. As discussed people with repaired immune system are at high risk of developing skin boils. These skin boils are skin abscess which are localized infections deep inside the skin. Initially a boil starts as red and tender, later as time passes it becomes hard and firm.
Our defense weapons the white blood cells eventually run to the surface and use against any infection, in this process they accumulate in the centre of any infection making it soft.
This collection of white blood cells, bacteria, and proteins is known as pus. Finally, the pus forms a head which can be surgically opened or spontaneously drain out through the surface of the skin. Small surgery!
Even medications are found to suppress the normal immune system and increase the risk of developing boils. These types of medications are those used during the chemotherapy treatment of cancer and cortisone medications.
For mild or simple skin boils the treatment can be given initially at home itself without making it much complicated. The hot treatment is the best method to get rid of skin boils at initial stage. All you need to do is put a hot bag on the boil.
Opening the area of skin boil and draining all the pus and the infective fluid out is a tough job, also it is not recommended as long as the boil is small and firm. However when the pus gets accumulated and the boil becomes soft and easy to pierce or cut off a bit to drain all the infective fluid, you can cut out along with the pus.
You will notice that once you get the fluid drained out, you get a tremendous pain relief. The piercing of the skin boil should be done by a health practitioner if the skin boil is too large to handle. Remember to use sterilized equipment for treating the skin boils.
The use of antibiotics for treating the skin boils may or may not be required. At times without piercing some skin boils are treated by antibiotics but in case of large boils the antibiotics are often used to eliminate the accompanying bacterial infection after piercing. If the surrounding area of the skin boil is also infected then the antibiotics are prescribed.
So this time you find any unusual thing happening on your fingers, behind ears, scalp or for that matter any were then be very sure to treat it at initial stage before it gets complicated and difficult to treat. Take Care!
