The Proactiv 3 Step treatment program for treating acne and other skin conditions is one that is used by many people around the world and also by celebrities such as Justin Bieber, Katy Perry, Lauren Conrad, and others.
So clearly Proactiv is a system that works at least for some people and for some types of acne. We look at how it works and how it is useful for.
What is Proactiv?
The Proactiv system consists of a benzoyl peroxide based treatment, consisting of a cleanser, toner and lotion developed bydermatologists Dr. Katie Rodan and Dr. Kathy Fields. It also includes ingredients such as chamomile, alone panthenol and allantoin. Since acne can be related to issues of self esteem and confidence, use of this product can help resolve these issues if it is successful in clearing up the skin as well.
How does Proactiv work?
The treatment system is to be used twice a day. The first step consists of applying the cleaner to damp skin, massaging for a minute or so and then rinsing. The second step involves taking a small amount of toner on a cotton ball to apply to the face. This is then to be followed up with a small amount of the lotion to be applied in a thin layer all over the face. This is allowed to dry on the skin and is not removed.
Acne is one word used for a host of conditions caused due to a number of different reasons. Acne can be mild or severe and the symptoms can vary for different individuals. Since individual skin types, types of acne and severity are so different, the result that you may get can be very different from the result that someone else gets.
The problem with most over the counter treatments for acne is that they are usually quite mild. The concentration of the active ingredients is less in proportion to prescription drugs and creams. So when you buy an acne product such as Proactiv you are not sure that you have the kind of acne that will respond to treatment.
For this reason when you read reviews of the Proactiv treatment you will find them very variable: many claim that it is very effective for them, while others claim that it didn’t work for them, some even going to far as to say that it exacerbated their skin condition.
