Botox treatments have widely been described as the best non surgical way to enhance facial appearance by smoothing wrinkles and age lines, and tightening the skin.
Supposedly Botox can banish those frown lines and the laugh lines; the crow’s feet and the unsightly neckbands that divulge our age. So how does Botox work?
Well Botox is actually the name for Botulinum toxin, which is one of the most toxic substances known to man. The bacterium Clostridium botulinum which produces a form of food poisoning (Botulism) also produces Botulinum toxin A which we know as Botox. So how can such a deadly poison actually help us look better? Won’t it just kill us off?
Valid questions, but the way that Botox is used is like this: a very, very dilute form of this toxin is used and injected into the area from where fine lines, wrinkles and other unsightly marks are sought to be removed.
What botox injection then does is it paralyses the area. The Botox toxin blocks the signals that would normally tell your muscles to contract. So simply put, that what cannot move cannot wrinkle.
To be sure the concept can be quite scary and is not for the faint hearted. Nevertheless, celebrities the world over have endorsed it, and its cosmetic efficacy for many of them cannot be disputed.
