What with the amount spent on slick packaging, marketing and advertising, it is easy for a consumer to be misled when it comes to skin care. However when buying anti aging products, keep the following in mind –
More expensive is not necessarily better – More expensive usually means more money spent on advertizing and marketing; often generics that cost a fraction of the branded product will have the same ingredients and be as effective.
Avoid Paraffin – This goes by several different names such as mineral oil, petroleum jelly and so on and though there is a claim that this will soften and smoothen the skin, the opposite may be true. These ingredients may actually clog the pores of the skin and cause problems.
Avoid fragrances – Fragrances usually mean added chemicals, so it is best to use fragrance free creams. The fragrance chemicals may be absorbed into the blood stream and have undesirable effects.
Avoid Parabens – Preservatives are used to increase the shelf life of skin creams and these are often parabens. Parabens have been linked to certain kinds of cancer. So long term use of these should be avoided.
