We tend to attribute acne breakouts to all sorts of things, but here are some reasons for acne that you may not have thought about:
- Actual physical pressure is one of the reasons for acne. It you spend a lot of time with the cell phone, resting your hand on your chin or playing the violin, then this could spread bacteria and cause acne.
- Stress can cause acne because it triggers the production of certain hormones in the body that in turn cause acne to appear on the skin.
- Your pillow case or towel – you may not think of these innocuous seeming items as being the cause of acne, but in fact these could be harboring dead skin cells and bacteria that could pass on to your skin. Fabric softeners could also be responsible for breakouts because they are made from tallow, an animal fat.
- Over drying skin can also cause acne. You may think that using cleaners to dry out skin will deter acne, but it may actually have the opposite effect because very dry skin will stimulate production of more sebum, which can lead to acne. The best thing is to keep skin moist but not oily.
